WHAT'S HAPPENING AT THE 1912 CENTER

1912 Center Closed June 30 to July 6

The wood floor in the Great Room will be refinished during the first week of July. To avoid exposure to the chemicals of the finish during this process, HAI will keep the facility closed to the public. This includes the closure of the Senior Center and Friendship Hall. The Management Office will be operating by phone and e-mail as usual with site visits postponed until Tuesday, July 8. Friendly Neighbors Senior Meal Program will relocate to the 4-H Building at the Latah County Fairgrounds on Tuesday, July 1 and Thursday, July 3. Please contact (208) 669-2249 with any questions about this closure and we apologize in advance for any inconvenience that this may cause.

West Wing Campaign

Heart of the Arts, Inc. (HAI) has entered the final push to complete the West Wing Campaign by June 30, 2008. Of the $315,000 campaign goal, only $35,000 remains to be raised and we need your help to get there. KACI General Contractor from Pullman has begun construction thanks to loaned resources. The project is expected to be completed by the end of August.

What is the 1912 Center “West Wing” Project?
The West Wing of the 1912 Center will add two major new spaces, an Art Workshop and a Community Meeting Room, to the building. In addition, the renovation will provide:
• A dressing room/restroom for weddings and other special events
• Hallway gallery connecting the east and west portions of the ground floor
• A refurbished entrance from Third Street into the 1912 Center

Art Workshop
The Art Workshop will be able to accommodate a wide variety of art projects. The room will provide a home for art classes and workshops that are joint ventures between Heart of the Arts, Inc., local artists and the Moscow Arts Commission. This room also could be rented for private art events (like quilter sewing days, weaving groups, pottery making [with items being fired off site] watercolor groups, etc.)

Community Meeting Room
HAI has recognized that a public meeting space will be a community builder in the 1912 Center. We wish to offer non-profit organizations meeting space at low cost. The space can be rented by University of Idaho, the City of Moscow, and businesses for classes and workshops. HAI could also make the space available to a community college for adult-education classes.

Dressing Room/Unisex Restroom
This feature will add to the amenities available to people holding events in the building. It will include a dressing table and mirror for use by wedding parties, and a compact washer and dryer in a closet for on-site laundry of towels, tablecloths and napkins. The room will keep historical features, like the terrazzo floor, as an example of the original look of the building.

Hallway Gallery
This will connect the East Wing (Senior Center and Friendship Hall) with the West Wing, allowing a connection without going through the Great Room. Opening up this hallway will expand the art gallery that has been enjoyed by visitors to the 1912 Center since last June and has added to the experience of coming to the building.

HAI Summer Plaza Concert Series

Wedding Photos by Pamela Peterson

In the Hallway Gallery now through the end of construction, come see the work of Pamela Peterson of Ponderosa Photography. Ms. Peterson, a member of the HAI board of directors, has selected a series of wedding photos appropriate for the season to show. The photos in this collection were taken at actual weddings all over.

The image here was taken in the 1912 Center's Great Room.

Ms. Peterson wishes to thank all the clients from all the weddings shown in this exhibit.
